With over 600 million users, Instagram has been coming up in the social media world since its beginning in 2010. Instagram gives companies a new and creative way to reach their consumer base no matter where they are! Companies are realizing that there is a greater return on participation in this booming social sphere, which is causing them to rethink their social media strategies.

One of these ways is to use Instagram. Read below for four steps to create a new and successful social strategy.

1. Creative Strategy

Make sure you have a good understanding of what people want to see. You need to be able to offer your followers something that they won’t find on any other social media site. Use Instagram to show off what you love about your company’s location and the surrounding community.

Instagram is a perfect way to show your followers and even non-followers the pride you have in your company. As an avid Instagram user, I think there are two simple questions that I would want answered by a company up front if I came across their Instagram page: What do you do and why do you do it? I need to know not only why you love your company, but why I should love it too.

2. Hashtags

Hashtags can be very effective if used in the right way. Hashtags are words or phrases preceded by the # symbol (ex: #instagram, #instagood) that enable all content with a certain hashtag to be found in one place if you have a public profile. This is a great way to get specific photos and company accounts a lot of attention.

But, beware. Overusing hashtags can be a little intense. Let’s say you post a picture of your employees in their cubicles at the office, and your caption is “Tuesday at the office! #smiles #employees #companyname #cubicles #Tuesday #happy #cool #summer #desk”… yeah, see how quickly that gets annoying?

Some people think that by using more hashtags, they will get more likes and followers. WRONG! You are turning people away and will most likely receive spammy comments and unfollows. And even if you were to gain more followers, it wouldn’t be the followers that you’d want to have.

3. Sharing

Decide how often you want to share content! According to a study based off of likes and comments by followers of 61,000 posts, the best days to share are Wednesday and Thursday. The best times to post are 2AM, 6AM, 5PM, and 10PM. If you’re looking for engagement, the most eye-catching colors are green, yellow, and blue. Make sure to use questions in your descriptions! This is a perfect way to encourage engagement and boost your likes and followers!

If you see that your followers like a certain type of picture more often, don’t be afraid to change what you’re posting and when you’re posting it. If people ask questions, be sure to answer them and thank them for being loyal!

Your followers should be the most important people to you on your Instagram page. Follow them back, like their pictures they tag you in or use your hashtags, and show them you’re thankful to have them as a follower!

Also, encourage your followers to share your pictures. This is the best way to gain even more likes and followers- from the ones you already have. Offer them promo codes and even giveaways, that way they will be more willing to share your company with others through their own social media. If you think your business is ready to start using Instagram, well, what are you waiting for? Use these tips and you’ll be good to go! If you already have an Instagram, you can also use these tips. Also, send us your shots! We would love to see them.
